Instructions and Help about Are Form 3520 Wont

Hi, my name is David Risley with PC met comm. Here with another answer to a user-submitted question. This person says that they have a computer which will not turn on anymore. They've apparently had it to Best Buy. They've had the power supply tested and Best Buy is reporting that the motherboard is bad. So basically, what's happening is that they're hitting the power switch and nothing happens. This does happen from time to time. There are a few things, basically, like any PC troubleshooting, you have to take it as a process of elimination. So, the first thing you always want to do is test the power supply. Now, I'm assuming that Best Buy did that. Usually, you could either get a power supply tester and test the power supply that way. Or, if you have a spare power supply, you can also just flip in another power supply and see if the computer boots up. Now, I'm assuming that Best Buy did this and they've already tested it and they've concluded that the power supply is not bad. So, we're going to go ahead and move on from there. The next thing that I would be interested in would be grounding inside the computer. Now, when you basically have a loose screw or anything that's inside the case that's metallic and touching the motherboard itself, it could ground the motherboard and prevent the entire thing from starting up. So, basically, what you want to do is just open up the case, go inside, and see if there's anything in there that's loose. Maybe the motherboard is in some way touching the case itself. If that's the case, you definitely want to use some motherboard spacers and get that off of the motherboard plate itself inside the case....
