Instructions and Help about Which Form 3520 Distribution

Session is on 2011 trust distributions. We have less than 60 days to advise clients on distribution resolutions. On April 13th, the assistant treasurer released important exposure draft legislation which will affect our advice and trustee resolutions before June 30th. These measures will impact family discretionary trusts and managed investment funds. There's little time left before June 30th, but the new laws will allow streaming of frank dividends, franking credits, and capital gains to beneficiaries in unexpected ways. Will these measures work in all instances? What do we need to do before June 30th to advise our clients? Tonight, we are fortunate to have two speakers, Andrew Mills and Ken Sugar, who are experienced in this area. Andrew is the managing director of tax specialist firm Greenwoods and Pre Hills. He will speak first and provide an overview of the cases and policies that led us to where we are, as well as the technical aspects of the new laws. Ken will then discuss specific examples and address any questions that arise. The session will include a 20-minute open forum for questions. It is being streamed live to members of the Tax Institute across Australia. Andrew has over 30 years of experience in domestic and international tax issues, with previous roles in the Australian Taxation Office and corporate and professional services organizations. He was the president of the Tax Institute in 2006-2007 and has served on expert panels for the review of management investment trusts and collective investment vehicles. Now, let's welcome Andrew and begin tonight's session.
